The microchip stores the personal and biometric information of the passport holder, such as name, date of birth, photo, signature, fingerprints and iris scan. The microchip can be read by special scanners at immigration checkpoints and other places where identity verification is required.

If you need your e-passport urgently, you can opt for the super express service, which delivers your e-passport within 2 working days. However, this service is only available for applicants who have already a MRP passport without changing their permanent address. You can check the status of your e-passport application online by entering either your Application ID or Online Registration ID on the Status Check page on the e-passport portal home page.
